Announced in September 2008, this model of Canon is a successor of Digital IXUS 960 IS. Improved resolution and face self-timer are the chief additional features of this model. Encased within a black case, the camera is extremely stylish.
Ability to control shutter speed and aperture are two features that distinguish this model from others. It also features an optical zoom of 3.7x and a 2.5" LCD screen. Another promising feature is a 14.7 mega pixel camera.
This gadget is designed such that it fits perfectly into the hand’s geometry. The directional pad ensures easy switching between the menu options. It also offers a variety of scene modes that enhances the photographic experiences. The completely manual functions, operation at the speed of lightning, and superior image quality are the striking features that attract a person towards this gadget.
The gadget also features keys that are quite comfortable to operate. A short 1.8 seconds is all it need to get switched on and capture the initial snap. HD video recording, touch screen option and Wi-Fi facility makes photography so special. The sporty look and the grip it provides makes this model attractive in the first sight itself. The placement of the keys is set in a way that ensures rapid switching between the menu modes.

Manual exposure control; speedy performance; group photo taking made easier with face self-timer; good image quality.
Chunky; confusing operations in program/manual mode; lacks wide-angle lens.
This IXUS is a very decent camera for shutterbugs who dont need one with wide-angle lens. The speedy performance and decent pictures undermine the fact that the controls on the shooter can be a bit confusing for newbies.

Abstract: The look and size of the Canon PowerShot IS is fairly standard, but that can only be seen as a knock if you find 5.6 ounces of weight not trim enough for you. One of the nice additions made to the latest IS models is the slightly rounded edges, which help...
Packed with bells and whistles such as QuickShot viewfinder, 15MP sensor and AI dynamic contrast.
No HD videocapturing and a bit pricey.
This sultan of snappers may have its flaws, but they're easy to ignore when you see the stunning pictures. A top performer....

Very good image quality, overall score of Superior in the our labs jury evaluations.
Camera disappoints with poor build quality, expensive price not matched by new quality features, little improvement on previous model it replaces, poor focal range, controls tricky. Min specs: Optical Zoom: 3.7x; 15 Megapixel; CCD; 0.16kg; 35mm Zoom Lens:...
Despite the improvements on its predecessor, we cant help but feel that Canon dropped the ball a bit with the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS. Unless you simply cant live without an optical viewfinder or extensive manual controls, we see little reason to s...
Our first reaction was that image noise would be a problem but, at low ISO ratings the new Ixus is amazingly noise-free and is still very usable at ISO 800.We found that switching to the ISO 3200 Trick mode gave much smoother results and was well worth...
Abstract: For the past nine years, the Canon Digital IXUS series (also known as ELPH and IXY in some territories) has been the benchmark for luxury ultra-compact digital cameras, combining elegant styling, superior build quality and the latest technology to produce...
This is a solid, reliable camera with a great deal of manual control. Its ideal for those wanting to get creative with a compact or learn the manual ropes....
Abstract: This is another in the range of marvellous Canon Ixus offerings that I have enjoyed reviewing over the years. Not only me but those of my friends who have taken my advice and purchased one of these little Ixus offerings....
