  • Solid 2D/3D Performance, Excellent Black Levels, Freeview HD Tuner, Reference Greyscale Performance - Calibrated, Beautiful Design, Motion Handling
  • Dismal Backlight Uniformity, 3D Glasses Lose Sync Easily, Blacks Turn Purple - Off Axis, Sluggish Menus, Lack of CMS, Unsightly 3D Emitter

  • Although our last couple of Sony LCD TV reviews have been largely positive, the company's LCD line has been fighting to stay relevant in recent times, given that Samsung have been implementing similar LCD technology with marginally better colour accuracy...

  • BD deck is brilliant value for money, 3D upgrade is a sensible option, Solid HD performance
  • Screen is clearly built to a budget, Motion blur evident, 2D-to- 3D conversion unconvincing

  • Exemplary 2D performance, whether from off-air or disc, good looks and fine ergonomics, stable 3D
  • But 3D images expose patchy backlighting, viewing 3D requires more outlay, too

  • The impressive natural black level response of the screen also means that Sony's local dimming system is the most effective we've seen on an edge LED screen. Though we personally still chose to deactivate it, for we could still see faint ‘blocks' of light...

  • Solid (post calibration) HD picture quality, Freeview HD tuner, Media playback from USB, Impressive 3D, Feature-rich Bravia Internet TV portal
  • Inconsistent network file playback support, Separate 3D Sync Transmitter solution, 3D crosstalk artefacts, Tight 3D glasses
  • Entry-level 3D telly hampered by an uncompetitive price tag, but leaves us looking forward to Sony's upscale 3D TV models. Image quality is fine, if not class leading, but network multimedia playback needs some work.
