  • Captures unrivalled stereo sound for the price; attractive, hinged design
  • Doesn't offer line-input, direct monitoring or pass-through USB; gain switch is difficult to manipulate
  • For capturing pristine, realistic stereo audio to your iPod, the Blue Microphones Mikey offers the best bang for your buck. It could do with some more features, though ...

  • Sounds good with voice memos; three-position gain switch allows you to record both quiet and loud audio; built-in speaker.
  • No line-in; switch hard to move; could use in-between gain settings; speaker quiet and tinny; too easy to disconnect mic from dock connector. Min specs: Compatible with iPod nano 2G, 3G, 4G, iPod classic, iPod 5G.

  • Clearly a much better recording experience than anything else on the market for direct iPod plug in, Doesn't require power
  • Not compatible with any of the current generation devices

  • The Mikey delivers crisp, high-quality recordings, and unlike many other microphones, it can do so even from over 100 feet away. Additionally, the integrated gain setting switch allows for quick, on-the-fly sensitivity adjustments, which is a major co...

  • This microphone has produced the best audio of any iPod microphone I have used.
  • Need a external mike port and/or a line level port. Also would like a USB port for charging the iPod. Share

  • No software installation. Gain control is adjustable. Not terribly bulky. Can be used with an iPhone ...
  • but only when iPhone is in Airplane mode. Big enough to dwarf the iPod Nano. Can't capture complex audio (read: a live concert) perfectly. But hey, what do you want for less than a Cnote?

  • Great quality recording, Excellent price for the features, Three gain levels.
  • Connector slightly loose when docked.
  • Its hard to fault the Mikey given a fundamentally solid design. As such, the Mikey should be kept on your short list as long as you own a conventional iPod. It produces quality audio, and the hinged design and gain settings are genuinely helpful. This...

  • Mikey is the best-sounding iPod microphone I’ve used. And with an $80 price tag and no line-level input, it should be. It records very nice sounding voice memos, and though the results it produces with quiet and loud material arent stunning, they ar...

  • Abstract:  First impressions don’t always prove to be indicative in the long term. But sometimes they turn out to be dead on, and that’s the case with the Mikey, the snap-on audio recording tool for iPod (and unofficially, iPhone) from Blue Microphones, the comp...
