  • Affordable desktop-replacement laptop. Touch screen. Good basic performance from an Intel Core i5-4200U processor. Decent port selection.
  • Basic 1,366-by-768 resolution. Display looks washed out. No optical drive. Most ports located on rear of system. VGA output requires separate adapter dongle
  • The Acer Aspire M5-583P-6637 is a good desktop-replacement laptop at a reasonable price. While it's easy on the wallet, it won't wow you with features or performance....

  • Thin for an Ultrabook with a 15.6-inch display, Great battery life of 7-plus hours, Decent benchmark performance
  • Low-res display for its size, Keyboard design isn't great, No optical drive
  • Fans of large laptop touchscreens will appreciate the Aspire M's roomy display, slim profile, and excellent battery life. The price-to-performance isn't bad either....

  • Slim, sturdy design, Perky performance, Runs cool, Long battery life
  • Finicky touch screen, Cheap-feeling touch pad, Sound grates at higher volumes

  • Dramatically improved performance thanks to an Intel Core i5-4200U Haswell processor. Decent port selection. WiDi.
  • Display is glossy and reflective. Colors are slightly washed-out. Lack of solid-state memory holds back the potential performance

  • Good build quality, Spacious keyboard, Enjoyable speakers, Strong battery life
  • Touchpad could be better, Ugly display, Slow storage performance
  • The revised Acer Aspire M5 is an excellent example of what Intel's new 4th-gen processors make possible. Little change has come to the chassis, and most other hardware is unchanged, so the improvements can generally be attributed to the laptop's Core i5...

  • Good build quality, Enjoyable user interface, Loud, clear audio, Long battery life
  • Touchscreen is rarely useful, Too much bloatware, Poor value
  • Acer's Aspire M5 Touch is a strong Ultrabook. It offers good battery life, an enjoyable user interface, and high build quality for a low price. Adding touch doesn't add much to the experience but, well, it adds touch. This can be useful in certain situa...
