  • Abstract:  When using the bundled FireWire 800-to-400 adapter cable, our duplication test came in 36 per cent slower than the FireWire 800 results, and the copy test finished 20 per cent slower – a significant drop, but not out of line with FireWire 400 test results from other drives we’ve reviewed.

  • Abstract:  This FireWire-equipped version of Seagates FreeAgent Desk external hard disk is aimed at Mac users, so it comes formatted with the HFS+ file system. It works with Windows Vista when reformatted as NTFS, but using it with XP is trickier. The drive ...

  • Fast. Well designed.
  • Thicker case than the USBonly version due to the height of the FireWire 800 port.

  • Fast; sleek design; USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 ports.
  • LED light does not denote activity.
  • With a five-year limited warranty and both USB and FireWire support, the FreeAgent Desk is an attractive option for storage-seeking users. Thanks to the FireWire 800 connection speed, the FreeAgent Desk is a respectably fast external drive. Seagate ha...
