  • Good build-quality. Easy to assemble. Includes USB cable and carrying case.
  • Kind of heavy. Styling is dated. No printed instructions in the box.
  • Mercury On-The-Go is a solid, simple enclosure for a notebook drive. The old-school styling is dated, but the enclosure gets the job done with a minimum of fuss....

  • Bus-powered. Speedy FireWire 800 interface. 7,200 rpm. Portable. Comes HFS+ formatted (good for Macs). Comes with all cables and a carrying case.
  • Comes HFS+ formatted (bad for PCs). Backup software on CD. Physically a bit larger than the competition. When using USB 2.0, its no faster than a 5,400-rpm drive. Somewhat pricey per GB.
  • The Mercury is a speedy (7,200-rpm) SATA notebook-class hard drive that works with a Macs (or a PCs) USB or FireWire power and doesnt require a power adapter....

  • Large capacity, USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800 support; bus powered; valuable bundled backup software; all data cables included.
  • A bit bulkier and heavier than competing compact external hard drives. Power switch is hard to reach.
  • Its big, and its fast. The OWC Mercury On-The-Go offers fast throughput via USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800, and its the biggest compact hard drive, at 500GB, you can get right now. Price range: $319.99

  • About as fast as a USB 2.0/Firewire device can be; very portable.
  • Where's the eSATA? And longer cables would be nice.
