  • All in all, the most exciting part about the Iomega Helium is it’s appearance. However, if aesthetics aren’t your main concern when purchasing a new drive, keep in mind that there are more versatile drives on the market for roughly the same price. The ...

  • Body made of robust metal, Compact, Backup software
  • Good transfer rate for USB 2.0, but nowhere close to USB 3.0
  • This is an excellent external hard drive that Iomega is selling. The metal casing is strong and compact. It's just too bad the transfer rates are held back by USB 2.0. ...

  • Iomega’s eGo Helium portable hard drive is a serviceable USB drive but offers nothing to distinguish itself from faster and better made models. It may go some way to complement the style of a Mac but falls short of matching its performance. ...

  • Compact. Metal chassis. Y-shaped USB cable.
  • Utilizes USB 2.0 only
  • The Iomega Helium Portable Hard Drive (1TB) is an external drive designed to appeal to MacBook Air users, particularly those who bought their ultraportable laptops before the advent of Thunderbolt....

  • Elegant, Mac-matching design, Speedy transfer rates for a USB 2.0 drive, Portable, rugged body
  • Bundled software can be quirky, USB 2.0 interface only, with no Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, or FireWire option
  • This little hard drive, small enough to toss into a bag and go, matches nicely with Apple's MacBooks. It's also among the fastest USB 2.0-based portable drives we've seen. ...

  • The Iomega Helium Portable Hard Drive is designed for MacBooks, period. The durable aluminum case complements Apple's portables, and it has the same plugandplay simplicity. The Helium is bus powered (no power brick) and it takes just a few clicks to set
  • The only downside is that it's not Thunderbolt, Apple's new super highspeed connection standard. Still, in most use cases the USB 2 connection is perfectly adequate. Even a multigigabyte Time Machine backup concludes in 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Small, compact and well-made, the Helium drive is a great addition to your MacBook, especially for backups. You are back in cup backing up, right?[xrr rating=90%]Leave a comment...

  • Nice aesthetics
  • Mediocre performance; hardware encryption requires software download, US$150 (500GB); US$200 (1TB)
  • All in all, the most exciting part about the Iomega Helium is it’s appearance. However, if aesthetics aren’t your main concern when buying a new drive, keep in mind that there are more versatile drives on the market for roughly the same price. The West...
