  • Solid styling; easily replaceable AA-sized batteries; 18x optical zoom that begins at 28mm; optical image stabilization; full manual mode; fast burst rate of 15fps but at 1.2 megapixels.
  • No manual zoom and hotshoe adapter; plastic tripod receptacle; half-pressing the shutter doesnt bring you out of the menus directly into shooting mode; continuous shooting limited to three frames; unusable pictures at ISO 3,200 and ISO 5,000.
  • The Olympus SP-550UZ would be a great travel camera, or a second camera with a wide focal range, at a competitive price.

  • Abstract:  Olympuss super-zooms have come of age, with a stabilised 18x lens thats fast, sharp and stable. Image quality is still a step below a DSLR, but the combinatin of 7MP resolution, compact size and full manual controls makes the SP-550UZ a tempting prop...

  • Huge 18x zoom lens, Effective image stabilisation, Compact for the features it contains
  • Awkward exposure shifts when recording video, Fiddly interface quirks
  • Olympus latest super-zoom packs a massive 18x zoom range that goes from a wide 28mm to an amazing paparazzi-busting 504mm equivalent, and all with a full spread of manual controls.Youd be forgiven for expecting some ungainly beast of a camera with th...

  • 18x optical zoom (28504 mm), Nice construction, High performance mechanical stabilization, Good definition for the LCD screen, RAW mode available
  • Slow to focus, Noise noticeable starting at 400 ISO, Quality of burst mode images, Video with sound but without zoom, or without sound and with zoom, Zoom is very prominent when at maximum

  • Great body design; high-quality, fast, wide, 18x optical zoom lens; sensor-shift image stabilisation; manual exposure controls; raw image capture
  • Very slow; high noise above ISO 400; slightly soft images
  • The Olympus SP-550 UZ has great ergonomics, but disappointingly slow performance and soft, noisy images drag it down ...

  • One of the longest zoom lenses you can find in a point-and-shoot camera.
  • Clumsy method to alter aperture and shutter speed.
  • Olympus did a great job of packing a long zoom range into the SP-550 UZ. The zoom will open up opportunities in your photography that you’ve never had before. ...
