  • Abstract:  Perhaps you’re not quite ready for a DSLR – uninterested in the idea of changing lenses and the typical DSLR is simply too much camera to handle. You’d like to test out one of these super zooms you’ve read about but the $300-plus price tag is a little...

  • Don’t be lured in by the long list of advanced features this camera has. Image quality is more important and, in this respect, the X5 doesn’t deliver. Overall ...

  • Long lens. Decent picture quality. Excellent value
  • Poor controls. Washed-out LCD. Slow AF
  • Confused controls, but the image quality and long-range lens are much more than you'd expect for the price ...

  • Abstract:  This is called a ‘Bridge’ camera, nothing to do with the card game but it is a bridge between a pocket digital camera and progression to a DSLR camera. The reason is the size and shape is like the latter but controlled like the former....

  • Abstract:  The GE X5 14.1Mpixel bridge camera is aimed at that middle ground between the digital SLRs and the compact cameras. As it is a very competitively priced versatile camera it will be a very attractive proposition for those on a budget who want the additi...

  • Image quality is very good when conditions are right, Very low price for 15X zoom, Flash photos are really good when conditions are right, Eight resolution choices available, Inclusion of EVF is nice in low-priced model,
  • Photo results are inconsistent, Most fixed lens cameras offer bigger zoom lenses, Shutter lag is a problem, Four AA batteries are handy but add to camera's weight, Flash doesn't pop up automatically when needed, must be opened manually
  • For the most part, I'm not a big fan of fixed lens cameras. Most are expensive, and, for just a few hundred more dollars, you could purchase a DSLR for vastly improved performance. So I was interested to have a chance to review the GE X5 camera, which offe...

  • The GE X5 offers a lot for its low price, including a 15x wide-angle zoom lens and semimanual and manual controls
  • The X5's shooting performance is really slow, and it's not good indoors without a flash and in low-light conditions
  • The GE X5 megazoom is a very good value, as long as you understand its photo and performance limitations.

  • Shots can be sharp and well exposed, very cheap
  • Stabilization is ineffective, white balance unpredictable

  • Abstract:  The X5 is a nice little camera. Its shape is not really suited to a pocket or purse, but that is offset by the stability of the handgrip.

  • 15x zoom in a teeny tiny package. Acceptable pictures depending on your photo expectations and given there's adequate light. It's cheap
  • Looks cheap. Lens cap keeps popping off. No light meter in manual shooting mode. Screen difficult to see in bright sunlight. Blows out highlights
  • If you need an extensive zoom and can't afford to shell out for a more fully-featured superzoom, the X5 will be adequate enough, but its inconsistent image quality and slow performance won't endear it to anyone more than just a casual photographer....
