The Canon Powershot A 1000 IS is a good buy for those who wish to have an automatic settings camera. The camera has an Easy Mode which gives a clear-cut image, both colourful and white balanced. However, the camera does have a high noise level with higher ISO settings while using the manual mode. It also has a 4x zoom feature, face recognition software, and a 2.5 inch high resolution LCD screen. It also has a unique 10-shot scene mode, which along with the Optical image stabilization gives very good quality images.
The camera has another rare feature which is a DIGIC 3 processor, giving it a very quick start-up time, easy auto-focus, and also helps improve the power usage. The A 1000 IS has a much slimmer and sleek looking appearance than its predecessors. It can be worked using one hand when necessary as the dials are strategically placed to be easily accessible with one hand.
The editors liked
Easy mode system which is very useful
Quick start-up and shutter time
Auto white balance and 5 preset colour systems
Assistance for low light focusing through an illuminator
Built in speaker cum microphone
DIGIC 3 processor
10 megapixel CCD imager.
The editors didn't like
Heavier and bulkier than most others
Noise levels at even low ISO sensitivity
Part of the images are clipped by the viewfinder.
TestSeek's Conclusion
The Canon Powershot A 1000 IS contains all basic features required for any camera in addition it has certain unique characteristics that make it a very good buy, like the Easy Mode system, the DIGIC 3 processor, and the Low-light focus illuminator.

Optical image stabilizer; Easy mode; speedy performance; good image quality.
Cheap plasticky feel; lacks wide-angle lens.
The A1000 IS is a compact shooter that delivers decent-looking images and has extensive features to help novices start shooting.
For the money Canon is asking, the A1000 IS has very good photo quality. Colour, contrast and white balance are particularly striking and although it's fairly slow, its design is well thought-out and even a novice will find its manual controls easy to...
Abstract: The Canon Powershot A1000 IS is a step up from the most basic digital cameras. For example it has a viewfinder, image stabilisation plus extra options for colours and flash. There are also a number of options within the menu that allow you to fine tune...
Canon has launched number of products from the very beginning. They are the oldest company in the arena. They have always provided with the quality service and they have made it possible to afford a camera by anyone. The new addition of the model A1000...

Image stabilization technology works very well, Plenty of resolution for most users, Overall response times good for model in this price range, Optical viewfinder or LCD is available for framing photos, Design is good with wellplaced dials and buttons
LCD sharpness is below average, LCD can be difficult to see in bright sunlight, A little bigger zoom lens would be nice
With a suggested price of about $180, the Canon A1000IS digital camera isnt going to offer a host of high-end features. However, what the A1000IS does offer—an excellent all-around feature set—makes it a good choice for beginning photographers...
The Canon PowerShot A1000 is a nice addition to Canon’s entry-level line of cameras. It’s just like the A2000 I reviewed, with a smaller 4X lens, screen size and the addition of an optical viewfinder. The main features of the camera are its 10...
Compact, Good lens, Optical viewfinder, The Aseries handgrip returns!,
No manual exposure capability, Battery life could be better, Auto white balance about par for the course,
The A1000 IS is substantially different in terms of looks and usability from its predecessors. Canon's newest PowerShot A models are obviously targeted toward casual photographers rather than photo enthusiasts. After using both the A1000 and the A2000,...
