  • Despite a few missteps, the Vixia HG21 is one of the better consumer HD camcorders that weve seen. The overall video image quality is very high, and the features and usability are there. If Canon could include the more advanced manual controls from p...

  • Overall, though, the Canon HG21 really isn't that different from the HG20. The viewfinder will come in handy when shooting in bright conditions where the LCD becomes hard to see, and you get twice the storage. But this is not enough to make up the near-£3...

  • Enormous 120GB hard drive; ravishing video; optical image stabilisation
  • Sound could be better; frustrating joystick menus
  • The Canon HG21 is an excellent camcorder that does so many things right and hardly anything wrong. Our only concern is that it might be a victim of it's own success. Its flexibility means more more potential outlay on accessories, its huge hard drive ...

  • Full HD, capture still images at the same time, quick to focus on subjects
  • Needs to be connected to a power source to transfer footage to PC, mic isnt that good
  • The Canon HG21 is a good option if you are looking to shoot Full HD, however at almost £1000 its not for the occasional user...

  • Thanks to its capacious 120GB hard drive, this camcorder is able to squirrel away a massive amount of footage: about 45 hours of hi-def video, to be precise. You can also choose to squeeze your content onto an SDHC card - handy if you’ve got a card...
  • The latter is supposed to give footage a more film-like, cinematic sheen (cinecameras shoot at 24 frames per second), but doesn’t really make much of a difference in our opinion. The HG21 is also wallet-emptying expensive, even by HD camcorder stand...
  • It’s certainly pricey, but the HG21’s lightweight, compact build, huge hard disk drive and superb hi-def-capturing abilities make it an appealing prospect for any well-heeled home movie maniac.Canon HG21 is tagged with Canon, camcorder, hard d...

  • Mindblowing video quality; CODEC capable of recording 24Mbps; 120GB hard drive; full HD CMOS image sensor and advanced DIGIC DV II image processor; optical image stabilization; instant autoFocus; viewfinder is at eyelevel.
  • Its design is bulky and pretty average; heavy to lug around; manual focus is of no use.
  • The HG21 could’ve had a better LCD, been lighter in weight so that you could be more agile, the face-detection could also be included but it isn’t and it is not light on fuel either. All are valid drawbacks, but should most certainly not stand...

  • Excellent video quality; 120GB hard drive; attractive, understated design; eye-level viewfinder.
  • Wind filter not as dependable as previous Canon models; manual focus pretty useless.
  • Like its cousin, the flash-based HF11, Canons Vixia HG21 delivers excellent HD video quality and performance albeit in a slightly larger, heavier package. However, you do get more storage space and a lower price.

  • 24p and 30p video support; large sensor and high data rate result in great image quality; good audio quality.
  • Manual control difficult to use; requires power connection when transferring video to the Mac.

  • Extremely userfriendly, Great picture quality, 45 hours of shooting time
  • Manual controls difficult to control, due to toggle
  • The VIXIA HG21 is ultimately a very easy-to-use, highly-advanced and very intelligent camera. It can fit the needs of almost any type of shooter and produces great HD-quality video. Tom Skowronski is Videomakers Associate Editor. Canon USA, Inc. One ...
