  • The D-Link DSM-750 system is a great idea, and it would have been a great device if the company had spent a bit more time testing out the product and working out glitches with the software. Experts are suggesting that most of the problems experienced b...

  • Abstract:  Media extenders have had kind of a rough year so far, but we still want a way to get all of our PCs’ media content—photos, videos, and audio—out to the home theater. (TV channels would be great, too, but it’s still too hard to get premium channels in HD ...

  • The MediaLounge DSM-750 goes beyond streaming your digital content to the home theater, not only removing the need for an actual computer situated next to the TV but by putting full Windows Media Center functionality on your plasma, DLP or LCD. The pr...

  • Wireless HD video streaming. 802.11n and 5GHz support. Full complement of outputs, including HDMI. Windows Media Center Extender mode for use with Vista. Silent operation.
  • Expensive. Requires Vista PC to take advantage of all features (though it works, in a reduced capacity, with Windows XP). No Mac or Linux support.

  • Easy to set up, Integrated WiFi handy for getting content around the house, Form-factor fits with other HT devices, Online Media Center content is neat, as long as they keep it fresh.
  • Media Center Extender feels like a Microsoft 1.0
  • Right now, MCE feels very much like a Microsoft 1.0 release. It has real potential, but Redmond still has a lot of optimization work to do. That they’ll reach their goals in the end is probably certain; the Xbox 360 was a massive leap ahead of the o...

  • Cinchy setup. Streams content from PCs and NAS drives. Supports live TV viewing, recording and timeshifting, provided your PC has a tuner. Frontmounted USB port lets you play content from flash drives.
  • Video tops out at 1080i. Menus look a bit muddy. No volume controls on the extender remote. Cant play DVDs. Wireless streaming demands highend DraftN router. Xbox 360 works equally well and plays games and DVDs to boot.
