Film-based 1080p24 video output; quick start option; good HD picture quality; HDMI 1.3 output.
Lots of multimedia formats wont play; no Blu-ray "resume"; no Profile 1.1 interactive feature support; disappointing DVD upscaling; no DTS-HD audio compatibility.
The Sharp BD-HP20 delivers profoundly good HD picture quality but its lack of some key features ultimately makes it feel too much like a first-generation trial run.

The Sharp BD-HP20U only supports Blu-ray profile 1.0; no onboard decoding for high-resolution DTS soundtracks or bit-stream output; poor 1080i deinterlacing on Blu-ray movies; no Ethernet port for firmware updates; poor performance with video-based DVD...
The Sharp BD-HP20U is a decent Blu-ray player that can load some discs superfast, but there are better options out there.
While Sharp's first Blu-ray effort is far from perfect, the pros certainly outweigh the cons. On the positive side, Blu-ray picture quality is phenomenal, delivering the sort of razor-sharp images that hi-def home cinephiles crave. It's also equipped with...
