  • 200Hz pics, cheap for what it is
  • Washed out colours, grey blacks
  • A fine HD Tv with 200Hz let down by basic lack of decent colours...

  • Good looks, fine finish, extensive spec, sturdy TV reception, accomplished images from all sources
  • Sound is the usual dog’s dinner, some more expensive rivals offer even more detail and insight

  • As we all know, 42 is the answer to the life, the universe and everything. It’s also a decent response for how big a telly you can get away with before being banished to watch TV in the attic. This well designed, mid-sized LCD from LG comes with thi...
  • There’s no numerical solution for the LG’s wishy-washy blacks and weak colours, nor for its rather limited viewing angle. Sound trickles rather than floods from the LG’s ‘invisible’ speakers (note: ‘invisible’ her...
  • With its uber-bright panel, headline-grabbing price and aggressive motion control, the 42LH5000 has the armchair sports fan firmly in its sights. Fans of more subtle subject matter (and/or crown green bowls) might prefer a TV that bites off less than i...

  • Abstract:  The only regrettable thing about the 42LH5000's pictures is that dark scenes look markedly greyer than they do on all three of our other contenders. Also, while it's a bit tough on the 42LH5000 to have to finish on a negative, its sound is merely average, thanks to a basic shortage of power and an inability to expand the soundstage during action scenes.

  • Great price for its specification; loads of features and connections; good control of motion blur; very bright for a 32-inch screen
  • Black levels need work; high-definition images could be sharper; limited viewing angle; occasionally muted colours during dark scenes
  • LG has worked its usual magic with the 32LH5000, in that it delivers a fearsome on-paper specification for a relatively inexpensive price. But, while the set sports useful features galore, a couple of key failings stop it from hitting the performance ...

  • Capable and assured picture. Good spec, including 200Hz. Stylish. Decent value for money
  • Perhaps could do better with black levels - but this is a minor quibble
  • Elegant and good value, this is a classy TV at a sensible price. Take a good look ...

  • Abstract:  Usually when I describe a TV as sharp, I'm talking about the clarity and detail in its pictures, or maybe the coolness of its design. But while LG's 32LH5000 might indeed turn out to have crisp pictures and chic looks, the first reason I'd call it sharp i...
