  • Tiny, lower power use, cheap, great picture quality, good range of useful apps, USB input, built-in wireless, plays pretty much everything
  • A bit slow to navigate menus, bug sometimes crashes device and needs restart to recover
  • When the WD TV Play arrived, we didn't really know what it was going to do better than any other device. In fact, it turned out to be better than almost anything else we've used as a media player. It didn't encounter files it couldn't play via DLNA...

  • affordable, easy to use media player with good range of online services
  • doesn’t work with iTunes, no internal storage
  • If you simply want to stream your iTunes music and video onto your TV, then the AppleTV is still the best option. However, the WD TV Play provides access to a wider range of online services, so it's the better option for people who want to connect their T...

  • Attractive, intuitive UI, Wide range of integrated streaming services, Very cheap
  • No support for DTS audio, Poor navigation for local media, Remote has questionable layout
  • In many ways WD TV Play is unremarkable. The design is pleasant, though the build materials are cheap. The codec support is wide, but has key omissions and the streaming services by and large are well done and user friendly. The breakthrough price of the ...

  • Western Digital's latest low-cost media hub, the WD TV Play, dabbles in many cord-cutting areas, but doesn't lead in any of them....

  • Easy to set up, Compatible with almost any playback format
  • Tricky to use, Depending on preference, the remote may seem “outdated”, Content loads slowly, Has fewer apps, compared to Roku and Amazon products, No parental controls, Used more power than other devices we tested

  • Excellent sound and picture quality, Unit powers on whole home theater and switches inputs, Easy direct-access buttons on remote for Netflix, Hulu, Vudu
  • No Amazon VOD app, Poorly executed Facebook app
  • As long as it supports all the services you use, you'll find the WD TV Play will deliver consistently high video and audio quality and a nice user experience at a very good price....
