  • Abstract:  When Apple launched the second version of its Time Capsule router-cum-Time Machine repository earlier this year, it added a couple of nifty features but neglected to make the most obvious upgrade: boosting the capacity of the hard drive....

  • Easy to set up a complicated network; network management is simple; convenient remote disk functionality.
  • 1TB model is pricey; internal drive not user replaceable. Min specs: Mac OSX 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), Universal.

  • Fast wireless 5GHz throughput; 500GB or 1TB of included storage; easy to use; truly dual-band; works with Apple's Time Machine software; good-looking design
  • Expensive; limited networking and network-storage features; no bundled backup software for Windows; hard drive is not user-serviceable; no media or iTunes server; picky support for USB printers; only three Ethernet ports; no Web interface; no remote access for Windows users; runs hot
  • Apple's Time Capsule is a convenient and simple wireless router and NAS server combination for your home. But, especially in the case of the 1TB version, you can find better deals, getting greater storage space and many more features for the price ...

  • As is so often the case with Apple products, the Time Capsule’s great strength is its ease of use. Setting it up really is extremely straightforward, so it will certainly appeal to ordinary home users and businessfolk who don’t know much about...

  • Lets you set up a secure network and a guest network. Fast dualband WiFi. A terabyte of network storage. Automatic backup via Time Machine for Leopard users. Can access hard drive via Mobile Me.
  • Works with PCs, but you need a Mac to get all the benefits. Little in the way of troubleshooting help if things go sideways. Skews toward the pricey side.

  • Quiet, high-capacity hard drive. USB port for external drives, printers. Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi. Allows extension of wireless range.
  • No automated backup included for Windows machines. No front-facing indicator lights. Cant act as an iTunes server. No hardware redundancy.
  • The Apple Time Capsule 1TB, an unusual combination of a Wi-Fi router and NAS device, gives all-Mac and mixed Windows/Mac networks an effective wireless storage solution....

  • Easy to set up a complicated network; network management is simple; convenient remote disk functionality.
  • 1TB model is pricey; internal drive not user replaceable.
  • Apple’s latest Time Capsules are what any good networking and backup devices should be: easy to set up, manage, and forget about. If you’re replacing an older base station and want to use Time Machine to back up multiple Macs, the new Time Cap...
