A good looking device with more than enough power and you get the excellent HTC Sense interface. The camera is also pretty decent, while the display is bright and has good contrast.
Just 4GB of memory and the inbuilt speaker isn't up to much. A higher resolution display and better battery life would have been appreciated. No 4G or NFC.
For a smartphone costing £199 the HTC Desire 500 delivers a lot. Those looking for a mid-range smartphone won't be disappointed, but the lack of a 720p holds it back slightly...
Older Android version, screen could be better, not as good value as the Moto G
Had it been released six months ago, the HTC Desire 500 would have been the best affordable Android handset available, offering quad-core performance while costing a rock-bottom £199. However, with the arrival of the even higher-specced and cheaper Motoro...
For your money, this is a pretty excellent device. You're getting a lot of the features of the more expensive HTC One (including Beats and the fun video montage feature that is created from your photos). It took me a short while to get used to just the tw...
Nice design; Quadcore processor; Competent camera; Zoelike video editing features
Underpowered WVGA screen; Lacks memory; Higher spec phones at similar price
For the most part, the HTC Desire 500 performs well, squeezing the best out of its mid-range components and looking good while it does it. The WVGA screen will put off buyers looking for the better resolution that now seems to be a staple of other mid-ran...

Poor internal storage, Low res screen, Screen doesn't sit flush, No 4G
The HTC Desire 500 is a phone that we really want to be able to love, with the blue and red versions that we encountered contrast nicely against the white chassis. Put on the wall of a mobile phone shop, it is a handset that will certainly garner a secon...
Reasonable performance, Decent screen, Very good camera for the price
Poor battery life, Far too little storage
Overall I'm quite disappointed by the HTC Desire 500. It looks and feels like a great little phone, but it's impossible to view it in isolation and on the current market there are choices which present better value for money at (and in fact below) this p...
Samsung may know how to sell clumps of plastic by the million, but we'll say this: HTC really knows how to make a pretty phone. The HTC Desire 500 may not be made of metal, but it's a beautifully crafted bit of kit nonetheless, 9.9mm thick, light, rigid and easy on the eye. Our test model came in white and a striking metallic turquoise but there’s also a more muted black option.Out of the box, it
Though HTC's ported some of the One's features over, you can't expect everything. There’s no UltraPixel super sensitive camera, for instance, or handy Zoe burst shooting mode. Those we can live without. More bothersome is the screen - an 800 x 480 LCD panel that looks out of date compared to rivals' 1080p plus displays.Unless you're a camera fiend (the eight megapixel shooter is expectedly ordina
HTC's struggled in the last year, yet its flagship phones have never been better. The same is true of its mid-range phones like the HTC Desire 500, which is handsome, crammed with apps and comes packing (relatively) up to date software. But that doesn'...

Attractive design; Affordable price; Decent screen; Easy to use interface
Only 4GB of internal storage; Volume keys are hard to find by feel alone; Screen resolution could be higher
The HTC Desire 500 looks cool, has a decent lineup of specs and at only £199 SIM-free, won't force you to empty your bank account to buy it. If you're after a decent all-round phone that stands out from the other budget Android blowers, it's a good choice...
A good looking handset, Has the latest version of HTC Sense, Zoe will appeal to some
Low resolution display, Short on internal memory, BlinkFeed widget can't be removed
The quad-core CPU toting HTC Desire 500 might seem like a bargain at this price point, but it has a bottom drawer quad-core processor. While I do like most aspects of the design of this phone, its internal memory shortage and slightly below par screen do...
