  • Sturdy design, fits well in ear, modular design, exceptional sound quality
  • High cost, less than stunning bass
  • Shure seems to be leading the pack in the high-end consumer earphone market. Their se530s may be the only earphones weve heard that are more impressive than these se420s, and we suspect the extra driver is the main reason why. We still think that if...

  • Abstract:  at MyMac.com. We had a few gripes in addition to the hoorays in our evaluation of this product, which has been rebranded SE530 to fill the top spot in the companys newly-introduced budget-to-pricey comprehensive SE lineup. Artie recently reviewed SE...

  • The Shure SE420 earphones offer high-quality sound from a dual-driver design. They come with a nice compliment of accessories, and the eartips block out a lot of ambient noise.
  • The Shure SE420s are expensive, and are a tad large for earbuds. For such pricey buds, the SE420s are also a bit bass-shy. Some people might not like the feel of the earplug-like fit.
  • You cant go wrong with Shures SE420 earphones, despite their high price tag--unless you have the money to buy the SE530s, their more expensive cousins.

  • Shure has created a superb set of earphones in the shape of the SE420s. I maintain that the E500PTHs are still the best earphones that money can buy, but the SE420s are a far more affordable option. As I said earlier, if you've been lusting after the E500...
