  • Incredible amount of freedom to approach each mission, 50 square kilometers of visually stunning African landscape, Hefty singleplayer campaign should take at least 30 hours, Diverse reward and upgrade systems feed off each other very well, Robust map edi...
  • Story does very little with politicallycharged setting, Traveling for long stretches can become tedious.
  • Although you cant say the same for the plot, Far Cry 2s first-person action squeezes every last drop of potential out of the unique African setting. ...

  • Lush, beautiful environments; sense of total immersion; terrific action when carrying out missions
  • Extremely repetitive map encounters; slow pace with long travel times; character motivations are an enigma
  • Joseph Conrads 1902 novella Heart of Darkness explored a brilliant mans descent into savagery in the heart of the African jungle. Theres no question that Ubisofts Far Cry 2 takes these same themes and presents them in a modern context (theres even...

  • Abstract:  From cooking to movies, fusion is a time-honored method of making something new out of pre-existing components. The current generation of games show this in spades, but Far Cry 2 combines two genres that haven’t spent too much time together before. Th...

  • Abstract:  Weve just had the pleasure of a few minutes alone with Far Cry 2 on the Xbox 360 at Ubidays 2008, and the game really is looking quite lovely. Art director Alex Amancio took us through one of the games stages, taking in a raid on a savannah village, ...

  • A massive open-world that’s rich with opportunities and experiences and makes the average shooter look, well, average
  • Features, depth, and freedom might be a bit overwhelming for those accustomed to more standard shooters
  • This is a game for shooter fans that have been waiting for the genre to be dialled up to the next level. Its detailed presentation, feature-rich gameplay, and palpable sense of placing players in another world yield a bar-raising effort. ...

  • Superb graphics. Massive open world. Freedom to complete missions as you see fit. A range of vehicles. Day and night cycle and dynamic weather. Impressive animations when healing and interacting with the environment. Full map editor in multiplayer!
  • Much of your time is spent travelling from point to point. The respawn rate of enemy checkpoints is a bit out. AI sometimes too eagle-eyed, making stealth difficult unless under the cover of darkness.

  • Abstract:  Making an open-ended game with an expansive playing area can’t be easy. It’d be so much easier to make things linear, to guide the player every step of the way. So it’s always impressive when a developer pulls off a sandbox title that remains entertain...
