  • Sprawling overworld hides many surprises, Thrilling boss battles, Catchy soundtrack, Tons of optional side missions, Lots of clever references and silly jokes.
  • Creation tool is limited, Dungeons are fairly easy.
  • This throwback adventure does a good job of scratching that nostalgic itch....

  • Abstract:  If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then 3D Dot Game Heroes just whipped out an engagement ring on its first date with The Legend of Zelda. Squint your eyes and imagine that the smooth contour of the ergonomic controller in your hands has f...

  • Abstract:  When you think about it, The Legend of Zelda -- that is, the very first one, released almost a quarter-century ago on NES -- was really quite different from its sequels. Yes, you controlled a sword-wielding, elf kid named Link while collecting bits of ...

  • Abstract:  3D Dot Game Heroes marks the arrival of another From Software title that's going to be exclusive to PS3 owners in the West, and it's a damn good exclusive to get if you care about those sorts of things. Coming in at $39.99, it might seem like a cheap k...

  • Abstract:  The kingdom of Dotnia was once a happy, two-dimensional kingdom. That is, until the King decided that 2D was out of fashion, and declared that his realm would forever be rendered in 3D splendor. Things were wonderful until the Dark Bishop stole six m...

  • Wonderfully blends oldschool Zelda mechanics with a nextgen twist; visual style is eyecatching and the humor is genuinely funny.
  • Some gamers may not like how much it "borrows" from other titles; random slowdown in dungeons; some unbalanced gameplay.

  • Abstract:  There’s a fine line between “rip-off” and “homage.” On one side of the line, you have uninspired, lazily designed games that merely ape game mechanics, concepts, or visuals to cash in on the popularity of successful, original titles. On the other, th...

  • Unique graphics and visuals, customizable characters, can take snapshots of gameplay, nostalgic loading screens, clever dialogue, lots of insider-jokes, incredibly brief load times, affordable, interesting sword upgrading feature, mini-games, quite a few spells and accessories, retro music and intuitive controls.
  • Sometimes you’re not sure where to go next, may be too similar to older Zelda games for some and you’ll need to check the dungeon maps quite often for some temples.

  • It's hard to criticize 3D Dot Game Heroes for invoking Shigeru Miyamoto, widely recognized as gaming's most important figure, as its muse. 3D Dot Game Heroes offers a repackaged vintage gaming experience with obvious, but appropriate, improvements in g...
