TestSeek's Expert Reviews Summary

The Nikon Coolpix L18 is rated by the reviewers as one of the quickest point-and-shoot cameras that have ever been made. It has a large 3 inch LCD display screen, 23MB storage built-in.8 megapixel CCD imager, 2 AA batteries’, a red-eye fixer installed in the camera, and a face detection AF exclusive function.

It also has a rare zooming function while shooting videos.

The Coolpix L 18 is one of the simplest cameras to handle, having only few controls and being very easy to change settings. It has 4 modes that one can select from, the Easy Auto mode, the Movies mode, the Scene mode and the simplest Auto mode.

Just turn on the camera, select a mode and one can start clicking right away. The editors felt that it’s an apt selection for point-shoot photographers and for beginners as well.

The editors liked

  • High resolution and picture quality
  • Very simple to use and has an easy control system
  • D-lighting feature is very handy
  • Compact and comfortable design
  • Large and bright 3 inch LCD display
  • Exposure is automatic and has 15 scene modes installed.

The editors didn't like

  • Lens becomes unsteady after a while
  • Lack of optical image stabilization
  • Dark colours in images get slightly soft and blurred, with a small bluish tinge at times.

TestSeek's Conclusion

The Nikon Coolpix L 18 is an easy to use camera, and is very suitable for beginners and those who are looking mainly for a point-and-shoot camera. However, the reviewers do not recommend it if one is looking for perfect images and a good colour balance.

  • Abstract:  With all the fuss about Nikon's DSLRs, the Coolpix compact line sometimes gets overlooked. Which is a shame, because there are some gems in the range. The eight megapixel Nikon Coolpix L18 comes very close to being one of the sparklers...

  • Large, responsive LCD, Easy menu navigation, Fast continuous-shooting mode, Zoom active during video capture
  • Cannot select ISO, Limited options
  • We had great fun using the Nikon Coolpix L18. The similarly priced Casio Exilim EX-Z9 is more versatile and sophisticated, but the L18 is a fast shooter. You won’t get bogged down with distracting options and parameters, and at the end of the day, y...

  • Low price, simple interface
  • Pictures a little over-sharpened, some visible graininess, cant manually adjust ISO, somewhat sluggish
  • Nikons CoolPix L18 is a basic, entry-level compact camera that does little to separate itself from the pack. It will be fine for novice users but anyone more discerning will be frustrated by the image quality and speed issues. ...
