Photo and movie quality are disappointing given the camera's price tag.
Canon continues to update their Digital ELPH line-up, and so far for 2012 they've added three new models; the ELPH 530 HS, ELPH 520 HS and the ELPH 110 HS. The 520 HS holds the middle spot in this series, offering a few advantages over the 110 HS, whil...
Wide array of scene modes and effects, * Very good exposure and color, * 12X zoom lens in an ultracompact body,
No manual controls, * Buttons are very small, * Poor image sharpness, * Battery life is only fair, * Uses MicroSD cards for storage
It's best to think of this camera as a solid, basic point-and-shoot that happens to have a particularly long lens. If you're a fan of Canon's older, easy-to-use PowerShot SD series, the PowerShot Elph 520 HS basically adds a lot of zoom to that line...

The PowerShot Elph 520 HS is a very compact 12X-optical-zoom camera designed for casual shooters. It doesn't perform at the level we're used to seeing in Canon's cameras, and its MicroSD slot and lack of manual controls may give prospective buyers paus...

The 520 HS' button layout takes some adjusting to, its battery life is relatively short, and its photo and movie quality are disappointing given the camera's price tag
The Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS is a good choice for those already happy with their smartphone's photos and movie clips, but looking for a cute little camera with a long zoom and faster performance.
Abstract: Just the other day I was perusing Canon's Digital Compact Cameras webpage when suddenly I was submerged in a vat of relentless consternation. The company offers 25 point-and-shoot models in the sub-$350 category. In my opinion, that's far too many, and it...

Very slim and compact. Stylish. Nice zoom range. Snappy responsiveness.
The Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS packs a 12x zoom lens into a very compact body that's sure to turn heads. But this pretty camera is hampered by a tiny sensor that produces noisy images at middle to high ISO settings....
The Canon IXUS 500 HS is a good attempt to marry the classic styling of the IXUS range with a big zoom lens, but the tiny controls, poor battery life, so-so image quality at high ISO speeds and the eye-watering price-tag detract somewhat from its over...
Stylish design, Solid construction, Broad optical zoom range, Compact dimensions, Full HD video with stereo sound
Pricey, Teeny backplate controls, Images lack definition, especially at maximum zoom, Unimpressive battery life
If an optimum marriage of value for money and picture quality is your chief consideration when buying a camera - and it certainly should be right up there - then look elsewhere, since there are far better deals to be had. Buying Guide Best Canon IXUS came...
