The editors liked

  • First and foremost
  • The 5D Mark III takes beautiful photos
  • And improves on a camera that was already fantastic. The small changes on its body make the Mark III even more comfortable to use
  • While the tweaks made to button placement and the layout of its
  • Weatherproof Sturdy built
  • Better ISO range
  • Improved AF module
  • Inbuilt Noise Reduction
  • Outstanding Image & Video quality
  • DIGIC 5processorEnhanced performance
  • Amazing AF system
  • Good high ISO still and video performance
  • Lighter body with weather sealing
  • Silent jog dial for uninterrupted audio recording

The editors didn't like

  • Given how popular the 5D Mark II became in the videography community
  • We'd have liked to have seen the Mark III's video capabilities improved a bit more. The addition of a dedicated XLR microphone jack is probably a pipe dream
  • But a 60P mode at 1920x1080
  • Popup flash missing
  • Slightly over priced
  • Does not support EFS lenses
  • Quite pricey compared to the camera it replaces and competes with
  • Noise in video is quite unpleasant (above ISO 8000 in low light)

  • Setting a new benchmark for amateur and independent film makers, affordable alternative to pro broadcast cameras, rock solid workhorse-like build
  • Pricey if you don’t require broadcast quality video, slight delay whilst mirror mechanism flips out of the way before video recording can commence, clip duration limited to just under 30 minutes as it’s a camera not a camcorder
  • Capturing video at 1920x1080 pixels and 29.97 frames per second, admittedly shooting with a DSLR isn't quite as smooth or straightforward from the get go as on a regular camcorder or even compact system camera. This is because recording begins after the i...

  • Abstract:  The Canon EOS 5D MkIII is the latest high quality, full-frame Canon DSLR. The first 5D still holds its own in terms of image quality, so its younger sibling must be something very special...

  • Stills are beautiful, capable of producing superb video, lightning-fast auto-focus, rapid shooting, solidly built
  • No "clean" HDMI output, buttons to control camera settings take some getting used to, we'd love to see some more high frame-rate modes
  • A brilliant camera that offers both superb stills and fantastic video. It's ideal for people looking to get a video-capable SLR, but owners of the 5D II might want to keep their existing gear and wait for the next update. ...

  • The Canon EOS 5D Mark III offers a more streamlined shooting design, significantly updated feature set with more configurability, plus better performance over its predecessor. It maintains its excellent photo and video quality as well
  • JPEG photos at low ISO sensitivities don't match the generally excellent level of quality that you can otherwise get out of this camera
  • The Canon EOS 5D Mark III represents a significant advance over its predecessor. It's fast, flexible and can't be faulted on image or video quality. It's a well-specced piece of kit at a reasonable cost (the price below is for the body only). The Mark ...

  • IntroductionThe Canon 5D Mark III is a DSLR camera that has the ability to appeal to filmmakers just as much as it does photographers. The camera took stellar photos in our still image tests, but it also excelled in our video labs. We're not joking when w...

  • It was always going to be a challenge to replace the EOS 5D Mark II. Thankfully, Canon has been sensible with its upgrade, choosing to focus on improving its weaker areas. So, while the resolution is largely unchanged in the 5D Mark III, the sensors low-...
