  • Excellent image quality; gorgeous new LCD screen; HDMI output.
  • No Live View in Automatic mode; Creative Auto mode seems out of place.
  • The 50D is remarkably similar to the 40D in terms of performance, looks and features--but if you can spare the extra cash, its a much nicer package.

  • Stunning stills and movie quality. Great connectivity. Noise-reduction tech
  • Slow autofocus via LCD. Movie files limited to 4GB. Not the cheapest DSLR
  • Not the cheapest entry-level DSLR but the sheer breadth of abilities makes it an instant classic ...

  • Abstract:  The digital SLR market is a divided into three main strata, separated by price, specification and target audience. At the lowest end you have the entry-level models such as the Nikon D40 (£244 inc. lens), the Sony A200 (£300 inc. lens), the Olympus E-420 ...

  • The new Canon EOS 50D is a superbly versatile piece of kit. If you’re an existing Canon owner in search of a rugged APS-C format camera, there’s no need to look any further. But, if you’re in the market for a new system, it’s not q...

  • Abstract:  Canon's digital SLR range splits broadly into two areas. At the bottom end are the amateur cameras with APS-C sized sensors, and at the top end are the professional cameras with full-frame sensors (the pro-level EOS 1D Mark III is the odd one out wit...

  • Abstract:  Boasting a 50 per cent increase in pixel count, the Canon 50D is an update to the hugely capable but underrated ten-megapixel EOS 40D. As well as the increase in resolution, the new model boasts 14-bit colour, sensitivity up to ISO 12800, a new 300dpi ...

  • Abstract:  Although Canons 10-million pixel Eos 40D was a capable contender for the top slot in the semi-pro market, it quickly lost out to the superior and pricier Nikon D300. Now, though, using its considerable manufacturing muscle, Canon has introduced the Eo...

  • Abstract:  The E Canon EOS 50D is the fifth generation of enthusiast D-SLR from Canon, with each model evolving and showing improvements. As you’d expect, the Canon EOS 50D is a very well-rounded camera. There’s the class-leading 15.1Mp chip, impressive ISO range...
