  • Abstract:  The GR-X5 is a capable jack-of-all-imaging-trades and, as the saying goes, a master of none.

  • Abstract:  JVC may be late to the three-CCD DV camcorder party, but the X5 makes a showy entrance. It offers great video and very good stills in one compact package. The lack of a three-CCD model in JVCs consumer camcorder range has always been a curious omissi...

  • Solid blend of video and still capabilities; generally sensible controls; full complement of standard connections
  • Mediocre viewfinder, battery life and low-light performance; automatic features sluggish; no progressive video; limited manual controls

  • Abstract:  For a 3CCD camcorder, the lens barrel is incredibly small. There appears to be a focus ring at the end of the lens, but its actually static and doesnt do anything but sit there and look like a focus ring. Theres nothing more pointless than a focus ri...

  • Good image quality for both video and stills.
  • Boxy design can be problematic; lacks a viewfinder; short battery life; expensive.
  • The JVC GR-X5US has an interesting design, but it may not be to everyone’s taste, and its poor battery life and the omission of a viewfinder are serious problems. At $1,300, it’s also expensive. While it’s undeniably a good camcord...

  • Abstract:  JVC GR-X5US This boxy camcorder has three CCD sensors, but lacks a viewfinder and suffers from low battery life. Most camcorders go for a curved look, but the JVC GR-X5US ($1300 as of 5/2/06) has a boxy case that breaks the rules of camcorder design. T...

  • Abstract:  This is the GR-X5 from JVC, an unusual sight to behold, and also one of the best performers this year. We could not believe the quality of video and stills that this camcorder produced. But the proof was in the results.

  • Abstract:  The GR-X5, at nearly a grand, is far too expensive for the average point-and-shooter. For something simpler in the JVC line, the GR-D270 is about less than half the price.

  • Three 0.22-inch CCD sensors, sharp low-noise video quality, 5MP still image capture.
  • Only offers electronic image stabilising, can be hard to hold for larger hands.
  • The GR-X5 is JVC?s first compact 3CCD camera but unlike most budget 3CCD models, this features three larger 0.22-inch CCD sensors. We found the cube-like design a little awkward to hold as you have to curl your fingers around to operate some controls. ...
