The editors liked

  • The Apple TV is still the exact same minimalist masterwork—deserving of a spot at the MoMA someday. It's unchanged from its prior form
  • And just as easy to set up
  • Plug in the juice
  • Hook up the HDMI
  • And you're in business. The equally minimalist remote

The editors didn't like

  • Most of the way ain't all of the way. Streaming a file the size of a full Blu-ray movie just isn't feasible with today's internet speeds
  • Unless you're using the WiFi at Los Alamos or sleeping with the cable guy or something. Apple has to cut corners usin

  • affordable, compact design, attractive graphical interface
  • only provides access to very limited range of TV and video services
  • It is possible to run apps for some services on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and then stream them to the AppleTV using AirPlay – but the AppleTV really needs to provide direct access to those services without requiring any expensive additional hardware...

  • affordable, compact design, attractive graphical interface
  • only provides access to very limited range of TV and video services
  • From a technical point of view, the AppleTV is as slick and neatly designed as you'd expect from Apple. However, its reliance upon iTunes and Netflix is frustrating for users outside the US, and the AppleTV won't live up to its considerable potential unti...

  • Abstract:  Despite its name, the AppleTV isn't actually a TV set, but a small set-top box. Once connected to your TV using a HDMI cable and to your broadband router either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable, it lets you rent a wide variety of TV shows and movies...

  • I like the Apple TV: the UI is easy to navigate and, if retrograde, nonetheless paves the way for apps; the remote is excellent; it's responsive, and playback is good; and the box itself is compact and doesn't need a power brick. It is one elegant, co...

  • Abstract:  Full HD video and greater AirPlay support make the revamped Apple TV an attractive propositionRating: 4Average: 4 (1 vote) The Apple TV is the black sheep of the Apple family, this latest update being casually dropped into the keynote speech for the la...

  • Stylish hardware, refined software, 1080p playback and seamless audio and video AirPlay integration with existing Apple products,
  • Apple TV remains little more than a TV conduit for more capable devices and without them it flounders
  • The Apple TV is a hard product to score because it is exceptionally needy. On its own it is a modest upgrade on an average product with limited functionality that Apple sceptics should avoid. But place the Apple TV amongst iTunes users, iOS devices an...

  • iTunes on your TV, Airplay some content from your iPad or iPhone, Photostream support
  • No BBC iPlayer or any app support, not all movies in the UK are available in 1080p, interface is still very clunky, AirPlay doesn't work for all apps
  • Apple TV is still a strange beast to understand, and this release doesn't change that...

  • Very easy to use and set up, AirPlay streaming rock solid, Movies in 1080p HD quality, AirPlay Mirroring with iOS devices
  • No TV tuner, Still no iPlayer app!, AirPlay is locked, down, Movie rentals are expensive
  • If you have your heart set on an Apple TV, and you don't mind dealing with a few flaws, there's nothing horrifyingly wrong with Apple's new system. For anyone who's already bought into the ecosystem, there's plenty to enjoy with plenty of room for the sys...

  • Those gripes aside, the latest AppleTV is a great evolution of an existing product. 1080p playback and a faster processor have been added, while the price has remained stable at £99.Owners of Apple devices, and those with large iTunes libraries, will defi...
