The editors liked

  • Beautiful graphics. Excellent music and voice acting. Interesting
  • Adaptable new battle and leveling-up systems.

The editors didn't like

  • Uninspired save-the-world plot. New battle elements make the game too easy for experienced RPG players. Game world lacks depth
  • Story is too linear.

  • It's so pretty, it almost hurts; the fastpaced combat is handled well and keeps things moving nicely.
  • It's doesn't feel like a true Final Fantasy game; the "Super Pope" boss is ridiculously unbalanced.

  • Series-pinnacle real-time battle system; psychotropic scenery; exhaustive open-ended post-finale side quests.
  • Slow-burn tutorial lasts dozens of hours; finger-down-throat characterization.

  • Abstract:  A cocky self-proclaimed hero with a charming sneer and a heart of gold. A sultry, no-nonsense ally you can rely on for a sly quip and a warm hug. These characters sound like standard role-playing stereotypes, but to Final Fantasy XIII's credit, they tr...

  • Abstract:  “Execution masquerading as exile …” Now toss in the ad mantra of 'how far would you go to save a world that doesn't want you' and you have the story essence of Final Fantasy XIII. It begins with a phony disease that is the basis for genocide; add to th...

  • A diverse and mostly excellent cast of characters, A great original world, fleshed out by a compelling story, Fun combat system keeps you on your toes, Magnificent production values
  • Exceedingly linear exploration and character progression, Vanille will get on your nerves in a big way
  • The most beautiful Final Fantasy game yet is an imperfect but still impressive saga that will touch your heart....

  • Abstract:  Final Fantasy XIII is a game at a crossroads. It's stranded at the intersection between the desires of an existing fanbase, the fading popularity of a genre, a legacy of cutting-edge visuals, and the rising cost of game development. It's a creation tha...

  • Abstract:  The Bottom LineFinal Fantasy XIII is a beautiful, epic adventure that has the same quality and volume of content as other Final Fantasy games, but it feels a bit "light" on the RPG side. Think of it as an incredibly beautiful interactive movie and you ...

  • Open world gameplay, Well tuned battle mechanics
  • Characters and dialogue are forgettable, Side quests can become a bit repetitive
  • Lightning Returns is the strongest effort out of the Final Fantasy XIII series, but it is still saddled with the same unremarkable characters and setting as before...

  • It's doesn't feel like a true Final Fantasy game; the "Super Pope" boss is ridiculously unbalanced
  • Final Fantasy XIII is, without a doubt, the most technically impressive Final Fantasy ever created. Its stunning visuals and fast-paced combat shine and elevate the series to new heights, but overall, the game is a harsh reminder that beauty is only skin...

  • Abstract:  13 may be an unlucky number for some, but we're not overly superstitious... especially when that number comes attached to the brand-spanking-new Final Fantasy title. While Final Fantasy XIII is a next-gen game, it still manages to fulfil some old schoo...
